Workshop sort out 10/06/2021

Our need to extricate the next and final soleplates for the carriage necessitated a major operation to allow forklift access. The picture below shows the space we would have if we hadn't had to retrieve all the timber and equipment from the car park. The timbers on the immediate right are the components of section 3 which awaits assembly.

Final dismantling underway

 19/07/2023 With the assistance of a Hiab crane lorry and an early (for us) start the final section of the original bodywork of Auto 169 was removed from the chassis and work to save the last of the reusable parts was started. The final section although looking a little like its almost 100 years was actually quite sturdy giving credit to the carpenters who originally constructed it Lift off Once it had landed we set to work removing the remaining roof sections and recovering the roof hoops for reuse. The remaining wooden side parts were well beyond further use as carriage components although some may enter the recycling process to become pens! Going going....... Most of the roof is now gone and one of the roof hoops lies by the side for further use. The End is Nigh................

08/06/2023 Firstly, apologies for the lack of recent updates. This is definitely NOT due to lack of progress but unfortunately, things like glass and glazing are difficult to photograph in a way that portrays the work involved. We have today welcomed a couple of visitors to view inside the carriage and both (independently) remarked how surprised they were at the progress made and the quality of the workmanship that is going into the carriage. If you would like a closer look at what we are doing there please send a message and we will do what we can to organise a private tour for you.  Preparation for Section 3 Assembly   06/03/2022 We have been very busy since the New Year trying to ensure we are as prepared as possible for the upcoming reassembly work on section 3. We are taking our agreed undercover period commencing 28th March and it is our intention to fully utilise the time allowed to ensure we can complete as much as section 3 as we can and do any preparation and dismantling of section 4 as possible during the indoor period. The 3 roof hoops that we will need have now been glued and mortising for the roof spacers is progressing well. These are being hand made. An additional crossmember for section 4 has been made to a help ensure all is mounted squarely on the frames. Pictures below show the roof hoops nearing completion and the gluing of a section 4 crossmember.
